Research Grants and Contracts
Our research team has been a strong voice for interdisciplinary research and has taken a lead role in strategic efforts to
promote programmatic and interdisciplinary research. The growth in interdisciplinary research at CAMH represents a key strategy
in our current research funding climate, and ensures the continued improvement, transformation and development of our clinical
and prevention programs. Our work with various funding agencies, including the Canadian Institutes of Health Research and Canadian Foundation for Innovation, is stronger than ever and will continue to grow in the future. Our scientists and researchers have been more active than
ever in communicating and sharing their findings. Last year, our work was presented at over 640 conferences in 146 cities
in 28 different countries. This dedication and renewed commitment to collaborating and promoting research, allows CAMH to
play a leadership role locally, nationally and internationally.
Community Research Capacity Enhancement Program
The Research Program at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health established an annual grants program that fosters collaboration between our researchers and the community. Extensive discussions about research and diversity
between CAMH and diverse communities have made us aware of the need for the Research Program at CAMH to find ways in which
we can collaborate more effectively. The provincial needs assessment that we conducted also highlighted the need for increased
research with diverse communities on a number of issues related to addictions and mental health.
This grant program currently focuses on issues of diversity and is intended to allow CAMH to better align some of its research
activities with the needs and priorities of the communities in which we work and that we serve. The program funds a limited
number of projects that build expertise and technical research capacity among community partners, foster relationships between
a community agency and CAMH around research, or collect preliminary data in a partnership, which can then be used to secure
future additional funding. The intent is not to have this initiative driven by the CAMH Research Program, but rather to work
collaboratively on projects that are initiated by our community partners.

Research Fellowships
The Postdoctoral Fellowship Program provides postdoctoral fellows with a comprehensive training program in the fields of addiction
and/or mental health and with training in research techniques. Postdoctoral fellows are expected to make independent contributions
to knowledge during their appointment. These may be in the form of a contribution to an existing project, or through the development
of an original project.
Several postdoctoral research fellowships are available each year. These fellowships are funded by the Ontario Ministry of
Health and by the generosity of patrons through the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health Foundation. The fellowship competition
is held annually (conditional on availability of funds). Clink on 2009 postdoctoral research fellowships (PDF) for this year's application, due December 5, 2008. Visit 2007/2008 competition for more information on last year's recipients.
